3 July 2009 594 views One Comment

The hacker, who made top news in the year 2007 for unlocking Apple iPhone’s phone lock, has done it yet again. The individual has released a brand new Jail-Break application for the iPhone 3GS. The application is currently available for the Windows Operating System only. The hacker, known by the name of George Hotz, is just a 19 year old teenager, who made the news headlines for cracking iPhone’s top secured OS to allow 3rd party applications as well as other service providers to work on the same phone, has now come up with an application which does the same for the iPhone 3GS.

The Jailbreaking tool is called ‘purplea1n’ and is currently supported only on the Windows OS, that too, not on the Windows 7 OS, which is still in BETA stages. Hotz mentioned in one of his blog posts, that he would be releasing a Mac version of the tool soon enough. The application requires the latest version of Apple iTunes on the PC and the latest 3.0 firmware on the iPhone to be pre-installed prior to the Jail break operation. As Per his blog post, he said:

“Note the binary size of purplera1n, it’s smaller than C++ hello world,” he blogged. “No 20MB thing that needs to be torrented. And no IPSW to download. This is how jailbreak should be!”

Hotz had unlocked his first iPhone in 2007, leading him to get a hot Nissan 350z car as well as 3 locked versions of Apple iPhones in place of his unlocked iPhone device. Hotz has adviced every user to backup everything before using the Jailbreak application and to follow all the steps as per stated on his blog. Lets wait and see what kind of a reward he gets for this unlock
