Britannica Takes on Wikipedia!

13 April 2009 712 views No Comment

In a recent development over Encyclopedia wars, the age old Britannica wants in on the action happening over the Internet. Britannica was well known for a decade or so, for making awesome content for Offline Encyclopedias, with an option of “Update” which updated the offline encyclopedia to latest happenings around the world. Since Google favors Wikipedia a LOT these days, the competition is fierce for other search engines.

To get a take on this, Britannica has launched an online version of its encyclopedia as well. It was a shocking new feature, which allowed the online users to login, edit and update existing topics, much like the existing principle of Wikipedia.

Britannica’s President, Jorge Cauz, made it quite clear to the masses, regarding his displeasure of Google favoring Wikipedia and quoted, “If I were to be the CEO of Google or the founders of Google, I would be very displeased that the best search engine in the world continues to provide Wikipedia, as it’s first link.” He questioned further, “Is this the best Google can do? Is this the best that Google’s Algorithm can do?”
