Live Knoppix: The 911 For our Computers

20 July 2009 173 views No Comment

There’s many a times in the days of computing, when we are confronted with an error of some sort. We usually, well atleast the geeks, put on their thinking caps and start tinkering with their computers, trying to figure out the problem and then troubleshoot it. But if the OS itself fails, it’s a huge delimma to figure out the right way to fix the problem. Now, just troubleshooting might also not be the problem. Incase you need to backup some serious data that you can’t live without, you need some external help recovering it.

Linux is one of the most sought after operating systems when it comes to recovery.  Knoppix Live, is the hottest thing on the internet, since it’s quite portable and compatible with most of the applications. What Live differentiates from the normal Linux Knoppix versions is, that this bad boy doesn’t require any kind of pre-installation nor a separate partition. What the Live CD does is, it boots the OS from the CD itself and lets you use the internal HDD as it is, without changing anything. A nifty tool, that helps to recover data efficiently.

knoppix

Knoppix is a bootable disc, which has a collection of pre-installed GNU/Linux applications, shell hardware detection [as seen in Windows OS], support for addon cards including graphics cards, audio and others as well. This particular OS can be  used as an Educational OS, Data Recovery OS or even a platform for 3rd party application demos.

The Knoppix Live CD allows you to run the applications without having to install anything to your hard drive. The CD has around 2 GBs of compressed data, mostly related to the pre-installed applications. Due to its great feature of on-the-fly decompression, the CD holds up the large amount of data flawlessly. If you need an OS with no hassles, Knoppix Live is the one for you. Happing Kernelling!
