This week was an exciting one, for the Mozilla fans (Including yours truly), as we all got to get a sneak peak at the Firefox 4’s design and layout so far. Well as the statement states, just a “sneak-peek” nothing much unfortunately. The browser seems to be finally getting an amazing makeover with the contemporary fluid ribbon or more-likely, the Windows 7 GUI. The browser (might) will follow Microsoft’s Office style of introducing a singular “Home” button, which comprises of all the toolbar menu items.

With the growing demand and development over the Google Chrome and Chrome OS projects, Mozilla has started to finally feel the heat of the competition. With only open-source developers at hand, Mozilla had been battling head-on for a long time against giants like Microsoft (Internet Explorer) and Google (Chrome). With funds pouring in only from donations, Mozilla lacked the capital to further improve the behemoth browser with the speed similar to Google implemented for Chrome.

Firefox seems to be following the Chrome’s way. Apparently, Mozilla has launched a new project, which is codenamed “Electrolysis” that is aiming to follow the Chrome’s multiprocess orientation. Over the years, Mozilla has always made Firefox to run as a single process, leading to which, if even a single tab would fail, the entire browser would crash, leading to loss of valuable data. With 3.5 out, a lot of bugs have been discovered as well, so a complete revamp is quite the solution to this.

Mozilla’s Older Firefox line, the 2.0 version has finally surfed it’s last page. The 2.0 version received it’s last and final security update with version 2.0.0.19 which patches some 13 odd bugs and has dropped the everlasting phishing protection. With the release of this patch, the support for this version has finally been shut off.
The 2.0 version, which was quite revolutionary, was released first in 2006, October. Even though the older version of the browser has now been officially retired. Users are welcome to still use it though, but can’t …
